The Birds and the Trees Sex Talk
There will come a day when I'll have to have "The Talk" with my boys. The sex talk. The birds and the bees. The "Where do babies come from?" talk. I can't say I'm necessarily looking forward to it but I'm not overly stressing out about it either. I've got a few years before I need to worry about that, it's certainly not what I had on my mind during lunch today with my 3 and 2 year-olds.
During lunch today I was busy straightening up the kitchen and doing some random tasks while my 3 youngest kids were eating at the kitchen table. I could hear the older two chatting it up about some bird. I wasn't really paying attention. I've become quite skilled at tuning them out when I want to. But then, all of a sudden the 3 year old decided he needed to jump out of his seat and run across the room. Now I was paying attention.
I told him to go back to his chair and finish his lunch. He protested and tried to explain he was going to go look at the bird. After convincing him to just look at the bird out the window, he returned to his seat. Then he decided he needed to give his 2 year-old sister "The Talk" about The Birds and the Trees.
"Ela? Do you see that bird? Right there? That bird right there? That bird lives in a tree. That's where birds live. And when a bird lives in a tree it sits in its nest. Then the eggs go in the nest. Then the eggs crack open and that's where babies come from."
I nearly spit my sweet tea out through my nose. I'm glad I didn't tune this conversation out. I'm not sure my daughter fully grasped everything. My wife will probably need to review and expound upon some things in a few years but I think it's fairly accurate to say she's now had the talk. That's one kid down. Only 3 more to go!

Ha.
Hahaha. You know, you may not have to worry about it after all. Somebody else might have it covered. He summed it up briefly and spot on. So many things we can learn from our kids. Hilarious!
Technically you only have 2 left since Greyson already knew about the birds and the trees :-) Love that kid!
Cute! Not looking forward to that talk with my two...
Seriously hysterical !
As you say, 1 is all set.. And 3 more to go!
Kind of reminds me of the talk my mother told me as a kid!
Thanks for sharing !
That boy cracks me up with some of the stuff he says.
Indeed!
Have a great start to your Tuesday !
I may have to straighten his thinking out later :)
True. But I'd rather they hear it from me.
I'll have him put together a power point presentation for your boys. Lol
I love this story! I made me smile out loud. Always happy to see a SAHD dad sharing their adventures.

First I want to say that I love, love, love the picture of your little rock star at the top there! After seeing that picture and reading the story I can only imagine what a character he must be. How funny that he took it upon himself to teach his sister about the "Birds and the trees!" I laughed pretty dang hard at this one as I am an incredibly visual person and totally pictured the whole scenario in my mind!
Thanks for joining us today for the premier of Party Under the Big Top! We really appreciate your support!
Wishing you a great evening!

This story is great! I'm the mother of 23 and 20 year old daughters. Trust me -- these things never go as planned. I have stories! It's great that you are memorializing yours. I love your blog! #BigTopBlogParty
Ha! That's hilarious. Kids are awesome. Sounds like there is no shortage of amusing conversations in your house! Thanks for sharing this one!
Love this. I'd have loved to be a fly on the wall for your conversations!
Some wild conversations go down at our place! :)
Kids are awesome:) Their perspectives can fuel some very entertaining conversations.
Thank you. Maybe you should share some of these stories! :)
He is by far the biggest "character" of the bunch. Sometimes a pleasant character, sometimes not :) ha
Thank you for hosting. I'm glad you enjoyed the post :)
Hahaha! I have one of those too! She is the middle yet oldest out of my bunch. My son will be 26 next week so she is kind of like the oldest yet still in the middle! My husband, Kenny, is always telling her that she is going to be a comedian when she grows up but I do believe that she already is! ;-) tee! hee!
[…] chose The Birds and the Trees Sex Talk by Sunshine Dad because who could resist the picture of that Rock Star above? […]
That made me laugh out loud! Smartly handled isn't it!? You would have never thought about such better explanation to such a tricky thing! :)...
I think it's the worry for most parents and something everyone would love to know how to say it nicely to the kids when the time comes! And, ofcourse, when is THAT right time!?
Thanks for linking up :), Hope we get to read more entries...
Yes let's hope we get to read some more.
"When is that right time" that is the question isn't it.
